Student Computer Checkout Options

The Livingston Lord Library offers laptops, Wi‑Fi hotspots, and disc drives to MSUM students who have a documented need for this equipment and do not otherwise have access.


Eligibility

  • MSUM undergraduate and graduate students only
  • Equipment is available on a need‑based referral
  • Students must be referred by the Dean of Students Office

How to Request Equipment

  1. Apply through the Dean of Students Office
    Students work directly with the Dean of Students Office to request a laptop or other equipment.

  2. Approval & Notification
    Once approved, the Dean of Students Office coordinates with the Library Services Manager.
    The student will receive an email notification when the equipment is ready for pickup.


Picking Up Equipment

When picking up equipment, students must:

  • Present a valid photo ID (Dragon ID or alternate photo ID)
    No exceptions.
    If a student forgets their Dragon ID and does not have another photo ID, they must return later to check out the equipment.

  • Complete and sign the Student Laptop & Equipment Checkout Agreement

  • Log in to the laptop at checkout to connect it to the MSUM network using their StarID and password


Checkout Length & Renewals

  • Equipment is checked out for the entire semester
  • One renewal is allowed
  • Maximum checkout period: Two semesters

Included Software & Equipment

Laptops include:

  • The standard MSUM software package
  • Access to cloud printing

Additional equipment that may be borrowed if needed:

  • Wi‑Fi hotspot (instructions included with the device)
  • Portable disc drive

Student Responsibilities

While equipment is checked out, students are responsible for:

  • Proper care and safe use of all items
  • Returning all equipment and accessories in good condition
  • Following all terms outlined in the Checkout Agreement

Fees, Loss, or Damage

Replacement costs are:

  • Laptop: $1,056
  • Wi‑Fi hotspot: $60
  • Disc drive: $20

Future borrowing privileges may be limited if equipment is lost or damaged and the student later requests another loan.


Returning Equipment

  • Equipment must be returned to the Library Check‑Out Desk during library hours
  • All items listed on the return checklist must be included
  • If anything is missing or damaged, library staff will follow up with the student

After‑hours return options may be arranged in advance by contacting the library.
