Tip #1: YuJa Panorama Icons Explained, Part 1 (Purple and Grey Circles)
YuJa Panorama is an accessibility platform integrated into all D2L Brightspace courses. It audits digital course content for accessibility and creates a report based on web accessibility standards. YuJa Panorama automatically runs an accessibility check on these items and provides visual icons to signal information on these checks.
Let’s look at two of the icons you may encounter...
The dark purple icon of a stick person in an incomplete circle indicates a “scan in progress” - This means YuJa Panorama is still processing the report for the specific item. This could be a newly added item or something you have recently updated, and the report is still pending.
If you have just edited an item that previously had a report available, or recently uploaded the item, you may need to allow several minutes for the program to review the item and produce a new or updated report.
The grey icon of a stick person in a circle with a slash through it indicates there is nothing that can be scanned by the program. For instance, in Content you may have a Unit or Module heading with no accompanying information in the description area.
In this instance, the heading alone is accessible, and there is no material for YuJa Panorama to scan.

Tip #2: YuJa Panorama Icons Explained, Part 2 (Green Hexagon)
The icon of a green hexagon with a stick person in the middle indicates the item has a “high” level of accessibility – a score of 80% or higher. There may or may not still be accessibility issues with the item. You should still review the reports for items with a green icon. However, if you have many items to review, you may wish to prioritize Yellow Triangle and Red Octagon items first.

Tip #3: YuJa Panorama Icons Explained, Part 3 (Yellow Triangle)
The icon of a yellow triangle with a stick person in it indicates the item has a “moderate” level of accessibility, with scores between 60-80 percent. With this Yellow Triangle icon, the report may reveal one more major issues and possibly multiple minor issues.
YuJa Panorama categorizes issues by severity.
- Severe Issues – the document or items is not accessible at all. For example a PDF that is untagged or the text has been scanned as an image rather than text.
- Major Issues – these issues significantly affect accessibility – such as missing alt text for an image or improper heading structure.
- Minor issues – these are less critical, but still worth addressing – such as decorative images without alt text.
Start by fixing severe and major issues; this will quickly improve your score and make your content more usable for all learners.

Tip #4: YuJa Panorama Icons Explained, Part 4 (Red Pentagon)
The icon of the red pentagon with a person in the middle means your item has a very low level of accessibility – a score below 60 – and may pose significant problems for students – especially those, but not necessarily exclusively – students who use assistive technology to access your course.

Tip #5: YuJa Panorama Icons Explained, Part 5 (Blue Circle)
The icon of a blue circle with a stick person in the middle is one students will see in a course. It indicates YuJa Panorama can offer to them alternative formats for a particular item. The alternative formats are optional for students to use. They are meant to make content easier to read, listen to, or use with assistive technology.
When a student selects the icon, a menu will appear offering options such as:
- Immersive Reader – customizable text settings and audio playback for help with reading and focus
- Text file – removes formatting for simplified reading
- Audio podcast – listen to the document
- EPUB – read on mobile devices or e-readers
- Electronic Braille – for students using Braille devices
A complete list of available alternative formats is available on the YuJa website.
When a student accesses an item in an available alternative format, the original file or item is still available and unchanged. Also, not all formats may be perfect. For instance, complex document with tables, formulas, or images may not convert flawlessly. Please note that these auto-generated alternative formats are not intended to fix underlying accessibility issues with the source item. If the original item is not accessible already, the alternative format will likely not be fully accessible either. Also note, that if you have a student who requires accommodations, they should still work with the Accessibility Resources office to ensure their needs are being met to the best of our abilities.
