Installation and Troubleshooting
This article will assist you with installing department printers and troubleshooting some common issues. Department printers can only be installed on MSUM issued devices and not personal devices. Installation documents and information is available in the links below to assist in fixing some common printing issues for faculty, staff and student workers.
Faculty and Staff can also print and utilize the cloud printers and release stations on campus, this can be done on MSUM issued devices as well as personal devices. With these cloud printers installed, you can also release the jobs at department printers that have ID card scanners. To install the cloud printers, you can view the Student Printing KB article for installation instructions.
Topic: How to install a department printer on a Mac
	- First, remove any printers currently installed that we are going to install. Go to the Apple > System Preferences
- Click on “Print & Scan”

	- The printers installed should show up on the left hand side. If you are having printing issues you may need to remove them all by following through to the next step. If you do not need to remove any printers and are only adding a set of printers then skip to step 9
	-
To remove all the printers, click on finder (magnifying glass in upper right corner of the mac screen) and type in MSUM Self Service. Run this program by clicking on it.
	-
Login to the program using your StarID credentials. Login button is in the lower left corner.

	- If you have admin rights on your computer you can skip this step, if you do not have admin rights then click on "Utilities", then use the "Enable Print Queue Management" to allow changes to the printer groups.
	- Click on "Utilities" and then using the "Reset Print System" utility click on "Erase Printers" to remove ALL installed printers. Please note that every printer will be removed using this process including personal ones that may be installed.
- In the same Self Service screen click on "printers" and then select the department printers you want to install and click "install". Be patient, it may take a little while.

	-
To see the installed printer, click on “Apple” and go to “System Preferences”

	-
	Click on “Print & Scan”
	-
The printers installed should show up on the left hand side

How to add a printer on a Windows Operating System
	- Click on the Windows (Start Button) located in the lower left of your windows screen
- In the Search box type the following including the back slashes: \\printone.mnstate.edu and then hit enter
	- Depending on various factors it could take a little bit for the window to open, but be patient. Once the printone window opens you will see a listing of all the printers we have on our network. Anything with ‘MHD’ in front of the name signifies it is a multi- function copy/print device, otherwise they are printers
	- Find the device you would like to install, then right click on that device and then left click on ‘connect’ as shown below
	- It will take a short moment to install the device, once it is done it will be ready to use.
Some things to note:
	- If your printer was previously added using just the IP address and not through printone it will not work properly and if it hasn’t stopped working, it will eventually so you will want to make sure it is added through printone.

	- As long as your computer is joined to our network domain we are automatically pushing down printers for your department. If you do not have something you need we can help get it added
- You will typically not have access to all the printers on printone, only the ones in your department.
- You must request access for any student workers you may have, they will not be added unless requested by a staff or faculty member. However, that student will need to be present when we are ready to add the printer to the computer.
	- If there are any printers you no longer need, they can be removed so you do not accidentally try to print to them again, here are the steps to do this:
	- Click on the Windows (Start Button)
- Then go to ‘Settings’
- Click/tap on Bluetooth & devices on the left side, and click/tap on Devices on the right side
- Click/tap on More devices and printer settings under Related settings.
- Anything labeled with ‘printone.mnstate.edu’ at the end of it means it was installed through printone, if it does not have this at the end of the name it is probably an old print driver and can be removed.

How to fix printing on a Mac when a print job is stuck in queue or you receive an error saying "Hold for Authentication"
	-
Click on finder (magnifying glass in upper right corner of the mac screen) and type in MSUM Self Service. Run this program by clicking on it.
-
Login to the program using your StarID credentials. Login button is in the upper right corner.
-
Click on "Utilities" and then use the "Clear Print Queues" utility to clear the queues as a job stuck in the queue may be causing the issue. Try to print again, if it fails then move on to the next step.

	-
Find the magnifying glass on the menu bar and then type Keychain Access in the search field.
-
Double click the Keychain Access icon and then find and remove any saved passwords that pertain to printing. As you can see from the example below, the printer CloudPrint-BW includes network password in the second column. You can highlight the lines that pertain to your printing and use the delete key on your keyboard. You will also be asked to confirm the deletion.
-
You can close the keychain access and proceed to resume print. You will be prompted to enter your StarID username and password. You will need to prefix your StarID with mnstate\. You can check the box to remember this password in my keychain which will add your username and password back to your keychain.
** Note: if you are still not able to print, check your keychain again and/or restart your computer. If you are a student worker you may not have been given access to this printer and would need your supervisor to submit a request for this access.

*Kerberos SSO (Mac Only) - this authenticates your identity on the network, authorizes printing on MSUM devices and runs in the background. You can find the icon/application in the upper right corner of the Mac screen with your network icon and looks like a key, enter your StarID and password when prompted to login.
If you have a similar icon but is named "Enterprise Connect", we will need to have your computer brought in to be updated as this network extension is no longer in service.
