Software Installation Self-Service for Employee Devices

Overview

You can install common applications using the instructions on your MSUM device as detailed below. We also have applications available in many form such as in our remote applications, you can also browse our Software Application List to see what might be available.

If the software you need is not available using the instructions below and you need admin rights for installation, then please use the "Incident Request" button on this page

If you need a different application purchased then please visit the Software Licensing & Purchasing service. Please be aware that "Free" applications still need to be reviewed as often times the free versions are for personal individual use while anything utilized for university purposes or on an MSUM issued device may require licensing and/or purchasing.

On Windows

The Microsoft Software Center allows you to install software on a campus-owned, Windows-based PC (e.g., faculty/staff computer).

  • Click on the Start button in the bottom left corner of your desktop.
  • Enter “Software Center” into the search window. Once the Software Center app shows in search results, click Open.
  • Software Center opens to a listing of all software that is available for you to install. You can also search for the software you are looking for via the search box.
  • Once you have located the software you would like to install, click on the software name/icon
  • Click Install
  • Software Center will download the installation files from MSUM servers, then initiate the install.
  • Once completed, the status in Software Center will show as Installed
  • Your software is now available for use.

Note: It is recommended to restart your PC prior to installing software from the Software Center to prevent any pending Windows updates from interfering with the installation.

On Mac

The MSUM Self Service application allows you to install software on a campus-owned, MAC-based device (e.g., faculty/staff computer).

  • Open the Spotlight Search (Magnifying Glass in top right of screen).
  • Type "MSUM Self Service" and open the application.
  • MSUM Self Service opens to a listing of all software that is available for you to install. You can also search for the software you are looking for via the search box.
  • Once you have located the software you would like to install, click on the software name/icon
  • Click Install
  • The app will download the installation files from MSUM servers, then initiate the install.
  • Once completed, the status will show as Installed
  • Your software is now available for use.

Incident Request: If you still need help with something not working as it should or have questions, please contact the IT Help Desk or create a ticket using the "Incident Request" button on this page, or if there isn't one included then you can initiate it from the home page.

Service Request: A formal request from a user for something to be provided, information, advice, a standard change or access to an IT service, navigate to the Service Catalog to find the service you specifically would like to request.
