Microsoft Office 365

Office 365 is a collection of Microsoft applications in cloud-based services allowing users to access a catalog of software using any web browser on virtually any device as long as an Internet connection is available. There are no installations, no updates, and nothing required from the user other than logging into the service. Achieve what matters with Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and more. Students, faculty, and staff can download up to five copies of Microsoft Office 2016 ProPlus for Windows and Mac OS, as well as five copies of Office Mobile for iOS and Android.

OneDrive is a personal online storage system with 5TB of space when using Office 365.

Microsoft Teams allows for collaboration in Office 365 that integrates the people, content, and tools your team needs to be more engaged and effective utilizing instant messaging and video conferencing, just to name a few.

How do I log into Office 365?

  • Go to the Office 365 site.
  • Enter login information:
    • Students and alumni: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
    • Faculty and staff: StarID@minnstate.edu
  • Enter your StarID password in the second entry box.
  • Office 365 requires Multi-Factor Authentication to be setup. Instructions and information for MFA can be found on this page in our Multi-Factor Authentication KB article

How to Install Office 365 on a Personal Device

  • Students, Faculty and Staff can install Office 365 on up to five personal devices. Alumni and retired employees would retain access to the cloud-based services only.
  • Go to the Office 365 site.
  • Enter login information:
    • Students and alumni: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
    • Faculty and staff: StarID@minnstate.edu
  • Enter your StarID password in the second entry box.
  • Office 365 requires Multi-Factor Authentication to be setup. Instructions and information for MFA can be found on this page in our Multi-Factor Authentication KB article
  • When you are in the Office365 page and/or Email, click on the "Nine dots" in the upper left corner of the browser screen and then on the "Microsoft 365" button with the arrow next to it.
  • This will take you to the Office365 home page where you will see the "Install apps" button in the upper right corner of the screen. When you click on it you will see the option to download the installer "Microsoft 365 apps", run the installer after it downloads.

How do I activate Office 365 Pro Plus Shared Computer in the campus computer labs?

The steps below will need to be taken by everyone the first time using a computer in a campus computer lab with Office 365 Pro Plus Shared Computer Activation or if more than 30 days has passed since the last time Office was used.

  1. Launch any Office application (like Word) and this screen should appear.
  2. Click on Sign In and enter your StarID@go.minnstate.edu or StarID@minnstate.edu information for the username field.
  3. The Minnesota State system (MinnState) branded login box should now appear. Enter your StarID password and select Sign In.
  4. Uncheck the box next to “Allow my organization to manage my device” and select Yes.
  5. Finally, select Done and you are ready to begin using Office.

How do I install Microsoft Teams?

You can access Microsoft Teams online on any computer without installing the software. Instructions for installing Microsoft Teams on a windows pc or mac computer.

*Students cannot create groups/teams - if one needs to be created, they will need to have their advisor, supervisor or another facutly/staff member create it for them.
