How do I log into Office 365?
- Go to the Office 365 site.
- Enter login information:
- Students and alumni: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Faculty and staff: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Enter your StarID password in the second entry box.
- Office 365 requires Multi-Factor Authentication to be setup. Instructions and information for MFA can be found on this page in our Multi-Factor Authentication KB article
How to Install Office 365 on a Personal Device
- Students, Faculty and Staff can install Office 365 on up to five personal devices. Alumni and retired employees would retain access to the cloud-based services only.
- Go to the Office 365 site.
- Enter login information:

- Faculty and staff: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Enter your StarID password in the second entry box.

- When you are in the Office365 page and/or Email, click on the "Nine dots" in the upper left corner of the browser screen and then on the "Microsoft 365" icon.
- This will take you to the Office365 home page where you will see the "Install apps" button in the upper right corner of the screen. When you click on it you will see the option to download the installer "Microsoft 365 apps", run the installer after it downloads.

How do I activate Office 365 Pro Plus Shared Computer in the campus computer labs?
The steps below will need to be taken by everyone the first time using a computer in a campus computer lab with Office 365 Pro Plus Shared Computer Activation or if more than 30 days has passed since the last time Office was used.
- Launch any Office application (like Word) and this screen should appear.
- Click on Sign In and enter your StarID@go.minnstate.edu or StarID@minnstate.edu information for the username field.
- The Minnesota State system (MinnState) branded login box should now appear. Enter your StarID password and select Sign In.
- Uncheck the box next to “Allow my organization to manage my device” and select Yes.
- Finally, select Done and you are ready to begin using Office.
How do I install Microsoft Teams?
You can access Microsoft Teams online on any computer without installing the software.
*Students cannot create groups/teams - if one needs to be created, they will need to have their advisor, supervisor or another faculty/staff member create it for them.

Mac

Click on finder (magnifying glass in upper right corner of the Mac screen) and type in MSUM Self Service. Run this program by clicking on it.

Login to the program using your StarID credentials. Login button is in the upper right corner

Click on "Applications" and find “Teams”, then choose to install.

After installation finishes you can find the application in your applications folder in the “Go” menu.

How do connect or sync my OneDrive to Office 365?

Find your current OneDrive- Minnesota State icon on the menu bar located on the right site that looks like a black cloud.

Click on the Cloud, More and then Preferences.
***Note: if your menu does not look like the picture to right, then you need the updated client from Office 365. See below.***

Click on the Account tab and then Add Account and enter the following information and click on Sign In.
Employee username: StarID@minnstate.edu
Student username: StarID@go.minnstate.edu

Enter your StarID password.

Click Next on the next window.

The next window will show you tips on OneDrive and your setup is complete.

You can now remove your previous account by completing steps 1 & 2 above and then choose Unlink this PC.

E-mail Auto-Archiving
All accounts in the M365 Shared Tenant (Students, Faculty, Staff, and Shared mailboxes). E-mail In-Place Archiving will continuously move all emails older than 9 months (280 days) to a folder within the user's mailbox, labeled “In-Place Archive - starid@minnstate.edu”.
Individuals will find their older items by scrolling down to the “In-Place Archive - starid@minnstate.edu” folder. Any subfolder structure previously created will be respected. Please see the link below for an end user guide.
