Class Share Drive - New, Update or Removals

Overview

A faculty or staff member may request server drive space for a class to allow students to hand in material that requires large amounts of data that cannot be uploaded using the Learning Management System (D2L Brightspace), email or other traditional methods.

  • The class share drive is located at \\msumstudents.mnstate.edu\classshare
  • Any class the student is in or that a teacher “owns” will appear in that folder
    • Within the course folder, by default we create a “Hand-out” folder that all students can see.
    • Also created is a “Hand-in” folder where there are sub-folders named based on StarID, which only that specific student and the instructor can see.

How do I request a share drive folder for my class?

  • Faculty or staff member can request a share drive folder for their class by using the service request button on this page.
    • In the details of the request, please include instructors namesemester needed and course number.
    • When the folder is created, the class list is populated to the drive with their StarID as folder names.

When the semester ends, is the share drive folder removed?

  • At the end of the semester you may use the service request button on this page to let us know your preference:
    • The information uploaded to the share drive folder can be deleted and then recreate the share drive folder with the same course name.
      OR
    • The old information may be needed for awhile and you would like a new share drive folder created for each semester.
